Astrophysics: Mysteries of the Universe
An advanced astronomy class, individual students are challenged in their comprehension/appreciation of astrophysical concepts, mechanisms, and principles. If desired, subsequent classes taken will cover different and more advanced topics. Are you a serious cosmic explorer thinking about a possible career with NASA and have a basic understanding and knowledge of the universe? This unlimited class will take you to the next level with fun, challenging, and technical concepts.
The course in Astrophysics: Mysteries of the Universe is based on the principles and concepts of the nature of the universe. Its purpose is to provide inspiration into the essence of scientific investigation and to stimulate an appreciation for the observable universe. To accomplish this aim, concepts are developed with reference to everyday experiences. A study of the history of astronomy, as well as the tools and methods that astronomers use, will lend greater understanding to each new topic as it is presented. Relatively nearby celestial objects such as the moon, the planets, and other members of the sun's family are discussed in light of familiar objects on earth. The sun is studied as a model star, and then the more distant objects, such as the stars, nebulae, and galaxies, will be examined from both an intrinsic and observational perspective. A view of the universe as a whole, with some consideration of its past and future, completes the curriculum.
Each class costs $50.00 and runs from 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM ET. Please inquire about other days and times here.
